The University of Edinburgh (UoE) and Zhejiang University (ZJU) are working in partnership to create a joint institute (ZJE) in China.  The joint institute will initially focus on the delivery of an Undergraduate programme of study from summer 2016, taught in English, on the new ZJU International campus in Haining, approximately 50 miles East of Hangzhou, where the main ZJU campus is based.

The International campus will be a major new collaboration project between at least 6 international institutes.

The Institute will approximately be made up of 1/3 staff from Zhejiang University, 1/3 staff from the University of Edinburgh and 1/3 staff from the new Institute.

The initial intake of students to the Institute and the Undergraduate programme will be:

  • 60 in year one.
  • 90 in year two.
  • 150 per year from year three on.

The Institute will also provide opportunities for international research collaboration, however, the key focus and drivers are the timescales to deliver a teaching platform for summer 2016.

This project is to help understand the technical and IT considerations for the new Institute, and support the delivery of teaching, research and administration on the international campus.  An additional consideration for the University of Edinburgh is helping support the “flying faculty”.
