Impact
{Insert statement from Val White and John MacKenzie regarding the strategic importance of this project and its deliverables}.
Priority and Funding
{Cross-reference impact statement}. Funding is not required for resourcing project delivery.
Funding will be required as part of the future maintenance of an appropriate internet connection to the Roslin Innovation Centre and Campus Hub (Centre Building) and to pay for the servicing of maintenance costs associated with continued running of data network capacity within the building. An annual charge will be billed to the Center's CEO to cover the current costs.
The Center's CEO will pass on the annual charge to respective tenants as they see fit.
Additional funding will be required to pay for the initial lease of tenant phone's, which will subsequently be charged back to tenants using existing finance processes in use at the Easter Bush campus.
Impact and Dependencies
Strategic drivers
- The Roslin Innovation Centre programme is progressing as part of the Innovation Centre and Campus Hub building development the Roslin Innovation Centre CEO and Campus Operating Officer have impending deadlines (middle of May ‘16) to help retain existing and attract new and prospective tenants.
Support model resourcing
- Given the unique support model the CMVM has, it is important to note that IT support for tenants is not something which the College can provide.
Service hosting and provision restrictions
- The UoE cannot host servers in our data centers (we are not a commercial data center), nor can we act as an Internet Service Provider for infrastructure connectivity which breaks any strict JANET rules on using the academic network.
Internet connectivity via the Universities network connection
- For those tenants who are strategically aligned to the Landlords business objectives, the preferred default offering, subject to qualification that a tenant is eligible to make use of the JANET Business and Community Engagement (BCE) connection model. This must be based on business requirements, and ensure that any tenant adheres to the terms and conditions of the JANET connectivity rules.
Wi-Fi
- This cannot be “eduroam” due to restrictions with terms and conditions for access to the service. Therefore, an alternative model should be put in place to offer tenant Wi-Fi.
Door access
- At present, UoE building and door access is based on the creation of a UoE user account, generating an associated UoE card that is subsequently updated by Easter Bush Campus operations staff to permit access to various buildings.
- Those administering the creation of user accounts for tenants need to ensure they do not provide unintentional access to UoE services that the tenants are not eligible to have or use.
