July 2019

Report Date
July 2019

Achievements this period

  • Vet School installations started but haven't been completed by the end of the month as planned, due in part to some cabling issues.
  • Kennedy Tower lecture theatre completed 3 days later than originally planned, due to issue raised last month regarding the hole for the new projector - only one NHS booking had to be moved due to the delay, so teaching was not affected.
  • AV contractor has completed the majority of the Chancellor's Building upgrades and working with Alan Gilchrist have implemented temporary solutions for the other rooms, so teaching could begin on 30th July.

Issues

  • The main contractor for the Western General Medical Education Centre is still behind schedule and the phase 1 rooms (3 x seminar rooms) haven't been completed by the end of the month as originally planned.  AV contractor is now due on site to start their work on 12th August, giving them 2 weeks to get the phase 1 rooms ready for teaching to start on 26th.  University network needs to be fully commissioned for AV installation to complete.
  • The wrong RJ45 ports were installed in the Chancellor's Building rooms, which has meant some of the video signals are unstable and temporary solutions for the first teaching sessions had to be implemented.
  • The main AV technician for the Chancellor's Building had to go on paternity leave after 2 days on the job, so certain aspects of the install won't be fully complete until he returns.

Next Steps

  • Design solutions for the installation of the air canisters and the nurse/emergency call system for the Western General Medical Education Centre.
  • AV contractors to start in Western General Medical Education Centre 12th August.
  • Complete Vet School installations.
  • RJ45 ports to be replaced in Chancellor's Building and then AV contractor to return to complete installations.

RAG Commentary
Remaining at RED due to several jobs not being finished on schedule (Vet School and Chancellor's Building) although these rooms are in a usable state. Whilst we now have a start date for the AV contractors for the Western General Medical Education Centre, with the main contractor being behind schedule, there's still a risk to the teaching starting on the 26th August.
