Closure Report

Project Summary

This project will allow medical and vet students to raise requests for student support and allow admin staff to manage these.

Outcome

The vet school already had a system for raising requests for student support, and this project built upon the existing functionality to allow medical students to do the same. The new site takes a multi-tenant approach and allows both sets of students to use the same site for raising requests, but without knowledge of each other.

The system was deployed for production use on the 9th of June in time for the start of the 2021/21 academic year.

Key Learning Points

  • The original scope of the project only included making the site multi-tenant and making tweaks to the existing setup to support the addition of medical students. There was some spec creep as the medical school asked for more work than was originally agreed upon.  In the future, at the start of the project, it should be made clear to the customer what work will and won't be covered by the project.
  • We set up a test server at the start of the project. Having a working test server that stakeholders could access during development and after sprint reviews ensured that stakeholders' expectations were aligned with work done during each sprint.

Outstanding Issues

  • We found that the vet feed no longer pulled in agricultural students after the launch of the new site. It did previously. A call has been raised with apps to rectify this.
