Within the MBChB programme in Edinburgh Medical School there is a need to have a system that allows the Medical Teaching Organisation to efficiently allocate, administer and communicate clinical placements. Currently these placements are administered via spreadsheets and mail merge and students are allocated to their placements manually.  This takes around 105 hours effort per year group. In addition to this, there is preparation, checking and emailing, which can involve more staff. In AY23-24 there will be nearly 900 students across the clinical years and this number will increase in the coming years. 

There is also the opportunity also to improve the student experience by creating an online portal where they can see all their placements for the year ahead, gain important information for those placements and potentially upload documents or requests.
