Overview

Background

The Anatomy team currently use a number of separate files located within an encrypted container to store information about donations that they use and have stored within the department.  Due to the extremely sensitive nature of this information and the current admin overhead associated with keeping the files up-to-date, a new database system is required.

Scope

This project will:

  1. Carry out an analysis of the current data types and files stored and the functions required.
  2. Investigate systems in use within other universities (if possible).
  3. Develop a new database system that can be used by the department.
  4. Migrate data from existing files into new database.

Out of scope

To be confirmed once analysis has been carried out.

Objectives and Deliverables

Complete analysis of current data types and files.

Develop new database system.

Migrate existing data into new database system.

Benefits

A new database system will decrease the amount of admin overhead associated with keeping accurate records of the donations within the department.  It should also provide the ability for additional members of the team to carry out some of the record management tasks.

Providing the necessary information during the annual inspection will be an easier process.

Success Criteria

A new secure database system that provides the necessary functionality for the day-to-day management of donations within the department, as well as easing the processes of providing the necessary information during annual inspections.
