The data storage needs across CMVM are expected to increase significantly over the coming years, for both active storage during research paper development and archiving for data underpinning completed research papers. Currently a variety of methods are used for storing data, ranging from University-recommended solutions such as DataStore and SharePoint, to local hard drives and external cloud storage solutions. The latter gives rise to a different set of risks. It is not currently clear the full range of storage solutions that are in use, and the level of risk which is therefore inherent to the researchers.
The goal of this project is to improve sustainable data storage practice across the College through documenting the recommended College approach for the use of storage services, and suggest how to move from the existing storage solutions to the recommended approach.
