Impact
Priority and Funding
This is a compliance project which needs to be delivered to facilitate a change in legislation from 5th April 2015.
Impact and Dependencies
The impact of this project is expected to primarily affect local admin within schools/departments and local HR teams.
There may be financial implications associated with cover posts and recruitment activity along with potential costs associated with any enhancement above statutory provisions.
The pool of people who may access SPL is greater than maternity or adoption leave and this may pose challenges for the management of resources, workload and processes to support the administration of SPL.
It may have a positive impact on employee engagement generally as this is another family friendly policy which increases flexibility for individuals.
There may be a direct impact on the resources required to administer this scheme from within different areas of the University and some efficiencies may be identified from system solutions which we may wish to liaise with IS to deliver as part of another project.
The decision on enhanced pay and length of service eligibility rests with People Committee and Policy and Resources Committee therefore a decision on these elements will not be reached prior to the 9th Feb.15. On this basis processes will be developed to allow employees to apply from the 9th Feb.15 and any future decisions will be picked up as part of policy development from 12th Feb.15 as required.
The Policy will require ratification through CJCNC so early involvement of the trade unions will be arranged for the policy development.
The development of the processes will need to be completed prior to 9th Feb. to allow time to communicate the new process and deliver training, as required to relevant employees/managers across the University.
