The project aims to build on the work of the Funk Cataloguing Project, by continuing to catalogue the hidden collections of New College Library on Alma and make them accessible via DiscoverEd. The work will be done by members of the Metadata Team (Library & University Collections), in conjunction with the Assistant Rare Books Librarian, the Academic Support Librarian for Divinity and New College Library staff.
The project will include both modern and rare books collections. The Church of Scotland has offered £15k PA for each of the two years, which will fund 0.5 FTE cataloguer to work on the Church's own publications and an estimated 4,000 pamphlets from the United Theological Seminary. In addition, there will be 1.5FTE cataloguer resources from the Metadata Team core salaries budget, including a supervisor, to work on rare books collections. Rare books collections identified as priorities are: W (Stack 3), a collection of older theological/church history works mainly in Latin; William Fulton Jackson; Travel Writing; Greek and Hebrew Bibles; and the Inglis Collection of Chinese language Bibles.
The project will run from August 2016 until July 2018, with the objectives of cataloguing to the appropriate standard 75% of the W collection and fully cataloguing all of the other named collections. Other priority collections as yet unidentified may be considered if sufficient time and cataloguer resources are available.
