This project will cover the activities to implement the recommendations 8 and 9 relating to committees from the Governance, Management and Communications Review (GMCR) undertaken by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education on behalf of PPLS.
Recommendation 8: Staff engagement
PPLS should convene a small group to improve committee processing, including developing a common 'house style' for committee papers, and for running and chairing committees drawing on best practice within the University and elsewhere.
Recommendation 9: Training
The School should consider the best approach and then undergo training in good governance and committee process, particularly for chairs and secretaries, but also for committee members.
Thereafter an annual workshop or training event could take at the start of each session on governance, covering how to be an effective committee member, roles and responsibilities to ensure good practice is shared and a consistent approach is taken across the School. A small working group could be set up to consider training needs and the options for meeting these to take this forward.
