Project Estimations

The three point estimate template has been used to estimate the work in this project. The estimates are done in hours. This allows the different teams to measure days of different length. In SSP, 1 day = 4.5 hours and in ISG 1 day = 7 hours.

There are three estimates:

  1. The estimate for the entire project is 6,685 hours or 955 days.
  2. The estimate for SSP work is 3873 hours or 553 days (7h) or 861 days (4.5h).
  3. The estimate for ISG work is 2728 hours or 402 days (7h).

The following factors were used during the estimation of the development work:

  • The estimate velocity of development is based on the mean of the combined velocity for the main three projects delivered by SSP last year, with a fastest speed at 9.8h and the slowest speed at 14.8h per issue.
  • An 20% overhead has been added to allow familiarisation with APT as the main developer on the project is new to APT. This applies to the first Phase 1.
  • Another 20% overhead has been included in the first sprint to allow for knowledge transfer and for a senior APT developer to support the new developer. Additional effort will be needed if their help is required after that.
  • A second developer is starting work on the project from 5 February 2018.
  • 3rd line support is included to support fixing issues resulting from the sprint release. Major issues that required new development are not accounted for. Change requests are out of scope. This is at the level of 10.5h per sprint, based 15% of a 35h/week and a 2 week sprint.
  • A second BA and tester are yet to be identified within SSP but are included from March 2018 (Sprint 3).

The project plan takes into account the restriction that developers can only be booked up to 80%, i.e. only 4 days of work (at 7h) can be done over a 5 day week for FTE, and SSP staff are only available 4.5h per day.
