Programme info: To ensure that all areas of the University can operate seamlessly in the digital world, procurement is underway to secure a Short Courses Platform (SCP). The SCP will offer a digital education experience including online programmes and short courses that can be accessed worldwide and will focus on online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and lifelong learning. Developed in collaboration with representatives from the Colleges and Schools, USG, CSG and ISG, the ultimate goal of the SCP programme is to deliver a University-wide catalogue of non-credit-bearing free and paid-for taught courses for externally facing users (non-affiliated/non-matriculated) featuring multiple modes of study (face-to-face, online, hybrid).
Project info: The SCP will enhance the University’s existing teaching and learning ecosystem, provide the highest quality learning and teaching environments, and help to deliver the Digital Transformation agenda. Bidders were asked to tender for a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for the delivery of non-credited short courses, including a course catalogue. The winning bid includes a VLE (Canvas) and a course catalogue CMS (Eduframe). The available options for the presentation layer (web pages) have been reviewed, along with any cost and resource implications, and general pros and cons for each solution. Considering the deadline timelines for the SCP catalogue being available for testing (Jan-March 2024) and to the public (April-June 2024) it has been decided that the LTW Development team will create a static site generator for the SCP catalogue web front end.
The purpose of this project (SCP011 - Development of the Web Front End) is to:
- outline design requirements for the LTW development team to create a static site generator for the SCP catalogue (headless CMS) web front end
- ensure web front end meets University accessibility and data policy requirements
- follow University style and branding guidelines, including EdGel look and feel
- the LTW Development team will use NuxtJS to build the site. (Nuxt is an open source Javascript framework that can act as a static site generator)
SCP capabilities will include course catalogue; shopping basket (integrated with University online payments system, WPM-Education); learner registration; VLE. Requirements gathering for the SCP catalogue web front end will take all of this functionality into account.
