Objectives

  • Reduce energy consumption associated with lab ventilation (room air and fume cupboards)
    • August 2020: the webpage for the Estates Engineering Guidelines now includes the Lab Ventilation Policy and Guidance
  • Reduce energy consumption associated with lab equipment and cold storage
    • August 2020: the webpage for the Estates Engineering Guidelines now includes the Cold Storage Policy and Guidance
  • Reduce energy consumption associated with building services (general area HVAC and lighting)
    • August 2020: new projects like this haven't come to me this quarter - partially perhaps due to Covid19.
  • Reduce water consumption and waste arising from laboratories
    • August 2020: see 'living labs' report on lab plastic waste. Also, both topics were covered in the webinar I gave on 23rd July.
  • Motivate building users, managers and Schools through metering and targeting
    • August 2020: no action has been taken on this except for the Ashworth monitoring project, which is currently paused. Energy data from the new improved monitoring from estates is still not available as far as I'm aware.
  • Develop guidelines for sustainable lab building/refurbishment which are adopted and used.
    • August 2020: see 'ESME' report
  • Encourage uptake of the Sustainable Campus Fund (or other appropriate funding sources)
    • Promoted the SCF during the webinar I gave on 23rd July
