Following the successful complete of the VAV fume cupboard work in the Joseph Black Building over summer, the Engagement team has developed an A4 guidance poster on best use of the new fume cupboards. This had been uploaded to the website and wider promotion is planned.
8 labs projects were proposed and approved for SCF funding.
The Sustainable Cold Storage facilitator internship concluded in August, with a final report being prepared for dissemination. There were challenged with the levels of engagement from host labs, and learnings will be taken into consideration for any future work in this area.
A paper focussing on improving the equipment reuse process has been approved by the University Executive, and minor edits are being undertaken.
Lab Plastic Waste - Progress in Q1
Ongoing engagement with the Waste department and various labs to gather examples of lab plastics to send to Biffa. A meeting with Procurement to discuss how to get access to lab plastics data is in the process of being arranged.
Advice and guidance around lab plastics has been published and circulated to lab users. A pilot is underway at Easter Bush to test out recommended practices.
It is of note that there has been an increase in media enquiries about lab plastics, especially after KCL launched their new sustainability strategy which specifically mentions lab plastics.
A meeting with Clinical Skills staff from the Medical School has been arranged for November to discuss options to reduce plastic waste.
