34 staff took up the offer of financial support for professional registration
I think 5 are now professionally registered
This qualified the Uni as an Employer Champion award (via the Science Council)
The Technician Support Committee (replacing TSSG) hopes that one of their members might successfully apply to be the professional services rep on University CourtThe Staff Champions Network may provide opportunities for the Technician Voice to be heard
Val and I were asked to present about our work on the TSSG to new managers attending the launch of the Edinburgh Manager scheme.
Casualisation (back-to-back short term contracts) is being tackled by the UCU
Peter Mathieson referenced the Technician Commitment when answering a question about the people-focussed nature of Strategy 2030 (at the KB Townhall meeting).
SRS are invited to deliver 1h of training on lab sustainability for technicians at a series of events call Career Insight, from HR and IAD.
So...some good wins
But also lots of systemic issues remain:
Technicians are critiquing the Strategy 2030 plan to be people-focussed. They feel left behind. They describe issues of a 'frozen middle' like SRS faces, where top mgmt are supportive of changing to a more supportive arrangement, but their direct line manager isn't making any changes.
