The aim of this project is to maximise the benefit to communities in the Edinburgh City Region of the University's procurement processes. This could include community benefit clauses as part of the procurement process, as well as more informal ways of working with the University's suppliers. 'Community' includes people not linked to the University who live in Edinburgh or neighbouring local authorities, but could also potentially include the University's own staff and students (who will also often be citizens of Edinburgh and the surrounding regions).

In terms of delivery,  key agency lies with colleagues working in the University's Procurement team. Colleagues in SRS can provide advice on community needs outside the University and access to those communities. Responsibility for delivery of the community benenfits will depend upon the particular community benefitting and will require building strong relationships with a wide network of potential intermediaries within and beyond the University as a result.
