Project Communication Update

Learn Foundations

Throughout January & February we’re going to be hosting roadshows across the main campuses. These roadshows will be a great way for you to find out more about the project and we will also be showcasing some of the great tools that integrate into Learn and offer innovative ways of enhancing teaching and learning.

You can see the schedule and sign up for a session on our wiki page https://www.wiki.ed.ac.uk/display/LF/Roadshows.

In addition, we’re going to be visiting each School to discuss and plan the training and support needs particular to that School.

Working together

Since the last update we have run some very successful user experience (UX) studies to evidence how students and staff use learning and teaching materials online, and which materials offer the most value to them.

You can see more about what we’ve been doing on our wiki page https://www.wiki.ed.ac.uk/display/LF/What+our+students+think.

The results of the activities that have finished have been analysed and are helping to shape our design of the template, terminology and checklists, supporting our aim to make Learn courses easier for our students to use.

UX activities will continue throughout the year.  If you’d like to get involved please don’t hesitate to contact us at LearnFoundations@Ed.ac.uk.

In addition, several very successful staff user group sessions have been held.  These sessions have shaped and informed some of the UX activity as well as providing us with invaluable feedback to help ensure staff are well supported to make and deliver effective courses online.

Our first student user group took place on 16 January. This was a very interactive session where students helped us to finalise the prototype of the templates & terminology.

When will the changes happen?

If you choose to adopt the new template in 2019 there will be additional support available to help make this happen – this will be discussed at School level during the consultations planned over January-March.

The new template, terminology and checklist will be available from June 2019 with training starting in May 2019 so that staff are able to prepare for making changes following the Learn rollover at the start of June.
