Overview

Background

In a normal year, the University of Edinburgh staff would have approximately 12,000 mentions in the media. These mentions are manually updated in PURE - the University's Current Research Information System (CRIS). Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the mentions for University of Edinburgh staff in the media has increased dramatically. In addition, Communications and Marketing (CAM) purchased Signal AI as a media monitoring tool. This increases the coverage to international media. As a result, 12,000 mentions were identified in March 2020 alone. This makes the manual update process infeasible.

This project will take an CSV output from Signal AI and convert this into a format that can be uploaded into PURE.

Scope

The Scope of this project will include - 

• The development of an application to load information produced by Signal in PURE.

Out of scope

• A fully automated process
• Mentions from any other source than Signal

Objectives and Deliverables

Benefits

• Release of time and budget for CAM as the majority of media mentioned will no longer require manual updates
• Researcher media credits will be visible in PURE on a more timely basis
• REF case studies will benefit from more accurate, comprehensive and up to date media references
• Assist academics in applying for grants and promotions by being able to draw upon better media data

Success Criteria

• Researcher media mentions updates in PURE on a timely basis
• CAM staff time spent on updating media mentions in PURE reduced
