Within the University of Edinburgh, there is no standard approach to pro-actively “push” content to staff and students.

Aligned to the IoT project space, this innovation project is to investigate the use of iBeacon type technology to provide a longer-term strategy around pushing content to user devices.  The business benefits of this will look to understand what content could be pushed, and to what standard - course notes, seminar materials from external speakers, estates updates of local building work, promotional codes for the gift shop and so on.

This will involve a number of stakeholders and project staff who are already working on similar projects, but crucially student input into the type of content they would like to see.  From staff input, the IoT project, IS apps or Edina to consider the most appropriate delivery mechanism (an App), CAM, and in addition, key internal stakeholders in the project will be:

- The notifications Service project - To investigate the delivery of a notification update via beacon technology.

- The API projects - To investigate the type of content which could be pushed to students - for instance, course notes attributed to a timetabling event.

Full detail will be teased out of the project brief, to clearly define an achievable deliverable with the stakeholders involved.
