There is an exciting opportunity to develop EdWeb beyond its current position in terms of supporting the development and running of the University website. Our ambitious aim now is to build on previous success and to deliver a more flexible University Website service, underpinned by:
- Robust technologies.
- Agreed standards.
- Editorial and service management practices to meet the common use cases.
- Desired level of flexibility to be able to expand the offered services to meet growing business needs.
Scope
This project is to review and update our current web publishing services with the aim of expanding this into a much wider and more flexible centrally managed range of web services.
This could include:
- The corporate University Website supported by a Content Management System. This would be the next iteration of EdWeb.
- A centrally supported Web Publishing Platform created from University approved web agencies
- A web development service for bespoke sites of a more unique/complex nature
- A consultancy service for website provision managing strategy, content delivery etc.
This central service will need to:
- Align with the University of Edinburgh Web Strategy 2018 – 21
- Facilitate fast, flexible development
- Put the student experience at the centre of all website changes
- Put the editorial experience at the heart of the CMS
- Take a user centered approach, be data driven and constantly gather intelligence and insight from our target audiences
- Support innovation and allow enhancements to happen risk free, quickly and iteratively
- Use the latest technology innovations to embrace change
- Create infrastructure, technology and processes that make iterative improvements beyond the end of the project sustainable.
- Give our staff, students, and prospective students’ confidence in using all our web publishing outputs.
- Have at its foundation a strong and coherent content strategy.
