Impact

Priority and Funding

The project priority is Normal. 

Funding is provided as a combined effort by the University’s Web Strategy Programme and the Mandatory Drupal Upgrade project. 

Impact and Dependencies

Dependencies for the delivery of this project are related to: 

• Resource availability and key stakeholder alignment: 

• Identifying and securing enough resources and ownership to manage the project. 

• Transparent and timely knowledge sharing between Apps, WAC, CAM and the University development community working on their own systems. 

• At the conclusion of the Web Publishing Platform procurement project (WPS002), the successful supplier will need to fully engage with University teams and make use of the Design System and deliverables of this project. 

• Lack of alignment across the University:

• Lack of information on current usage of the EdGEL Pattern Library beyond WAC. 

• Perception in some quarters that EdGel = EdWeb; need to position the Design System as platform agnostic. 

• Existence of separate Pattern Libraries in the University, e.g., Business School and the Design System’s ability to fold these into a common repository. 

• Alignment of technology usage and approaches, e.g., currently, there is usage of different pattern libraries and compilers in use by WAC, IS Apps, Business School. 

• Current EdGEL offer: 

• The EdGEL Pattern Library underlying Bootstrap technology needs to be upgraded accordingly. 

• Known gaps in the current EdGEL Pattern Library, e.g., Drupal 8 theme, MyEd / Website use cases.
