Section Five: New Approved Projects from 13/14 Annual Plan

Section One: Programme Commentary, RAG and Resources Update

Overall the programme is in reasonable shape but the pressure on staff to deliver several high priority projects in quick succession is considerable. There is also a high degree of change to be experienced by end users and supported by IS.

Good progress has been made with the Wiki upgrade project (WEB004) which is on schedule to deliver the new live service in December.  Live migrations are in progress under the BOXI Upgrade and will continue through November and December, however the remaining estimates indicate that additonal effort will be required to complete the project.  The Office 365 Migration for staff (COM008) project has needed a lot of R&D in order to define the scope, but it is now taking shape and aims to start migrations from November.

The programme is currently running over budget due to additonal effort for essential work on the BOXI Upgrade project, and COM007.  However, with the Discussion Forum Upgrade project unlikely to be needed, we will use the days to bring the budget in line.

Overall Programme RAG: AMBER

Report by Maurice Franceschi for October 2013

The project tasks up to the end of November have been planned and people assigned to the tasks. All tasks required have been requested in ASTA, showing a delivery date the week before Easter 2014. New milestones and estimates will be set once resourcing of Priority 1 projects is completed, the build of the Prototype and all development on it are completed - early December. A full list of the taks to be planned and requested/assgined effort are shown in the tasklist.

Project now set at 301 days, with 130 days estimated for the Phase II, which wil be a new project.

The project is 24 days over estimate - no need to act on this as yet. Work remains on schedule.

Due to the current budget overrun and because some additional effort is needed, and also that the milestones could be rejected by WIS, the project is at Amber.

Achievements in Last Period

  • completion of several more planned tasks
  • project reviewed and new dates set that look much more achievable and delvierables to the community

Issues

  • some additional tasks that have been identified - need estimated and planned and impact on budget and delivery assessed
  • Pride is leaving the unviersity, so need extra effort for  handover to Pride

Next Steps

  • plan the additional tasks that have been identified
  • bring forward some of the database migration tasks once Gordon is up to speed, to bring forward all dates and also provided contingency
  • peer testing of all developed work
  • re-estimation of Phase I and Phase II
  • confirm the dates to update DEV, TEST and LIVE and communicate with projects and service/production support
