Q1 2019/20
- Report Date
- November 2019
Main activities and achievements for this project in Q1 are as follows:
- SRS convened a meeting of the Modern Slavery Working Group, which included a presentation from our work-based dissertation placement student on ways to improve the University's approach and move from reporting to action.
- Our 2018/19 Modern Slavery Statement was drafted and shared with working group members. The statement has been approved by SRS Committee and is now awaiting approval from University Executive, Audit and Risk Committee, Court and the Principle.
- Attended two events led by the Scottish Government Human Trafficking Team - a consultation on new duties for public bodies as well as ScotGov's annual Human Trafficking Forum.
- Shared our modern slavery training course with colleagues at Edgehill University, who are hoping to implement a similar offering.
- Modern Slavery Staff Training is now a mandatory core finance course. This has improved uptake amongst staff. Uptake amongst students is still low.
Next quarter we will focus on progressing the next steps in our 2018/19 Modern Slavery Statement as well as longer term planning. Another Working Group meeting will take place in January or February.
