Q4

Report Date
August 2020

Key activities for this area in quarter 4 included:

  • Supervision of a work based placement student researching modern slavery grievance mechanisms and access to remedy.
  • Meetings with several members of the modern slavery working group (in lieu of a planned meeting in April, which was cancelled due to Covid).
  • Benchmarking the University's Modern Slavery Statement against the Ethical Trading Initiative Evaluation Framework, leading to recommendations (e.g. specifying a senior manager with modern slavery responsibilities and the creation of a University Modern Slavery Policy).
  • Scheduling of a meeting between SRS, Procurement and Slave Free Alliance to discuss membership benefits and a possible training workshop.
  • Updated the modern slavery training text (still to be updated online).
  • Recruited a new academic member of the Modern Slavery Working Group and provided a letter of support for her modern slavery research funding bid.
