Overview
Background
Digital Collections Migration – LUNA (LUC074) builds on a number of projects from the DLIB Programme (specifically DLIB005, DLIB008, and DLIB020), which established that a new digital collections platform was required to improve management of and access to Library & University Collections’ digital heritage assets.
An open-source solution, Archipelago, was procured in 2022 but design and migration were paused due to lack of staff resource. With the recruitment of a Digital Collections Support Officer and more resource in the Systems & Development team, this work is now ready to commence.
This project is closely linked to and will run in tandem with LUC073 Digital Collections Platform Implementation.
Scope
This project is concerned with the migration of all digital collections material from LUNA to Archipelago.
The migration covers all collections material on LUNA, regardless of whether it is public / private or managed / non-managed by Digitisation & Making Services (D&MS), and will be undertaken in several phases based on these criteria.
Out of scope
The migration of any digitised / digital heritage collections on any platforms other than LUNA (e.g., PDFs on OpenBooks, AV collections from the School of Scottish Studies, 3D objects, collections held on lac store only).
Non-collections images such as staff portraits and documentary photography are also out of scope. Migration of this material will form the basis of future projects.
The project is not concerned with the relationship between Archipelago and Collections.Ed, and will not cover longer term digital preservation of the assets. These will also form the basis of future projects.
