The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union.   The new legislation comes into force in May 2018. The UK government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.

The responsibilities of the university will be  similar to those resulting from the existing UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), but there will be some new requirements.

This project will ensure that student systems comply with the GDPR by 25 May 2018.
