Summary benefits
These improvements are aimed at enhancing the student experience, and reducing queries and complaints. Financially, earlier fee payments benefit the University by improving cashflow and reducing bad debt. Additionally, streamlining processes leads to significant staff time savings and creates capacity. Overall, these changes align with the University's goals of providing excellent service to students while optimising operational efficiency.
Summary position
Currently, the university faces challenges in collection of tuition fees. As a consequence, fees are collected later than the University would like and we believe this leads to a higher level of bad debt than is necessary. Many students want to pay earlier and there are are a number of issues that lead to a poor student experience, including overpayments, students receiving reminder letters for overdue fees despite having internal sponsorship awards, and students missing deadlines to apply for government loans.
This work will enable all students to have clear information on when and how to pay their fees, be invoiced earlier and self-payers will have an easy way of paying their fees. Eligible students will understand the need to apply for government funding annually, and ideally there would be a single contact point for tuition fee queries.
