In September 2020 the Study Spaces Working group Group made recommendations to change study spaces in response to minimising risk of transmission of COVID-19, and Project MVM142 CMVM Study Spaces was set up to meet those recommendations and enable study spaces to be used as safely as possible through the pandemic.

Previously up to 2016, there has been no Disaster Recovery review and consistent tests being performed for over 10 years. Significant technical debt in the Disaster Recovery has been built up and leaving University priority services at risk in case of major Disasters.
The plan is to have regular annual Disaster Recovery projects will bring us to a level where the Disaster Recovery plans are well understood, documented and components have been tested.

There is a requirement to upgrade Oracle databases that are still on 12.2 to the long lived terminal release of 19c.
This is to ensure all Oracle Databases remain supported to 2024 or 2027 with Extended support. 12.2 will be out of support in Mar 2022.

We require our MariaDB infrastructure to remain current and supportable, We will look to upgrade to latest stable and supported versions of Mariadb.
Our last project to migrate to Mariadb added automation to the build and deployment of databases, we will build on the back of this to patch in an efficient automated manner.

The Division has built up reliance on a number of key products over the years to assist in project and service delivery.
This project would apply relevant upgrades to the following products as required: Bamboo GIT Python / Django Puppet / Yii Sentry Password Manager Nexus Talend We will look to upgrade to latest stable and supported versions of the products above. This will not review new functionality and only concentrate on software upgrades

Planned annual upgrade of Moodle VLE platform.
We should be upgrading yearly, but jumping 2 versions at a time (upgrading in June/July each year). The exact version each year will be dependent on our plugins and how quickly they can be tested/redeveloped by non-Moodle HQ developers. At present we expect to deploy in July the version that comes out in the December previous.
Annual upgrade of Moodle platform to stay on supported version. Takes place in Semester 2 for delivery into production in July to fit with teaching pattern.
